One person was killed and seven others were injured after a 93-year-old woman drove her SUV into a crowded restaurant patio in New Jersey on Saturday morning.The incident took place at Meg’s Grill in Lavallette, New Jersey, shortly after 11 am when the driver was reportedly trying to park and accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes, the New York Post reported.The Buick Encore crashed through the outdoor dining area, where customers were having brunch, before hitting the restaurant building.A 56-year-old woman from Toms River was killed in the crash, while the 93-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. The seven other people injured in the incident were taken to hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.Restaurant staff were not among those injured, according to reports.

The crash also damaged the façade of a neighbouring liquor store, while the restaurant itself suffered no major structural damage.Meg’s Grill said it would remain closed through Sunday and Monday following the crash.“All of our thoughts and prayers are with the people who were hurt,” the restaurant said in a Facebook statement. “Please give an enormous hug to your loved ones tonight. Thank you for all your kind words and thoughts.”
