Yemen’s government offers amnesty to Houthi defectors

President Rashad al-Alimi called on Yemenis to mobilise and join the armed forces, while offering a general amnesty to Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Fighting between the government and the Houthis has intensified, most recently near the coast of the Bab al-Mandeb strait.
