Sandy Dosanjh, the wife of Vancouver Police Department detective Kalwinder “Kal” Singh Dosanjh, is no longer running for Surrey City Council in the 2026 municipal election after her husband’s arrest.
The Conservative Party of Surrey confirmed that she had been removed from its slate of candidates.Sandy had been contesting a council seat alongside mayoral candidate Honveer Randhawa. The party’s decision came after her husband was arrested and charged with fraud, theft and breach of trust.
Who is Sandy Dosanjh?
Sandy Dosanjh was born in Talwandi Madho, a village in Punjab’s Jalandhar district.She married Kalwinder Dosanjh in 2004 and moved to Surrey in 2010.
The couple have since lived in the city.Before entering politics, Dosanjh was known publicly for her work in business and fitness. She later joined the Conservative Party of Surrey’s slate for the 2026 municipal election, seeking a seat on Surrey City Council.David Denhoff, president of the Conservative Electors Association and the Conservative Party of Surrey, said the decision was made because the circumstances had created concerns over public confidence.
He said the move was not an attempt to assign guilt to Sandy, but that the party had chosen to put public trust and Surrey residents first.The party later asked for privacy for Dosanjh and her family.
Who is Kalwinder Singh Dosanjh?
Kalwinder “Kal” Singh Dosanjh is a Punjab-origin Vancouver police officer who has served with the Vancouver Police Department for more than 25 years.During his career, he spent about 15 years working patrol in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside before moving into other roles, including the department’s Financial Crimes Unit.
He most recently served in the traffic section.

KidsPlay is a non-profit organisation founded by Dosanjh in 2015 to help young people stay away from drugs, gangs and violence through sports and recreational programmes.Dosanjh started the initiative after years of working in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, where he said he saw underprivileged children missing out on opportunities. He later expanded the work to Surrey, where KidsPlay organised youth-focused sports and community activities.Some of the allegations now facing him relate to the foundation.
Charges against her husband
Dosanjh has been charged with four counts of fraud, four counts of theft over $5,000 and breach of trust by a public officer.According to the BC Prosecution Service, the alleged offences took place between December 8, 2017, and July 25, 2025, in or around Vancouver, Surrey and other locations in British Columbia.Police said the alleged victims include community members and investors who had dealings with Dosanjh and his co-accused, Sarabjit Singh Gill. Both men are Surrey residents and were business associates when the alleged offences took place.
