Strapped into towering heels, dozens of daring runners dashed through Madrid’s Chueca district in the city’s annual High Heel Race, part of its Pride celebrations.
Now in its 26th year, the race forms part of the Spanish capital’s LGBTQ+ Pride Week and draws large crowds to the cobbled streets.
Locals and visitors gathered in Chueca to watch participants tackle the course in gravity-defying high heels.
This year’s winner, 25-year-old Raúl Rodríguez, took home the €350 prize. “I knew I would win — and I did it,” he said.
Pride celebrations in Madrid will conclude on Saturday with a parade expected to attract tens of thousands.
