Officers were called to Kennerleigh Avenue in Austhorpe on Saturday

Police have formally identified a 16-year-old girl who died in Leeds, prompting a murder inquiry.

West Yorkshire Police said officers attended Kennerleigh Avenue in Austhorpe at 05:55 GMT on Saturday, after a young woman was found unconscious in the street.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but later died in hospital.

The force said the family of the teenager, who was from the Cleckheaton area, had been notified and were being supported by specially trained officers.

Four people - two women, both aged 18, a 20-year-old man and a boy, 17 - who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain in custody.

Det Ch Supt Marc Bowes said: "Following our appeal for further information yesterday, we have now identified the deceased as a 16-year-old girl from the Cleckheaton area.
