Last month's Gambian peanut stew was described as a "huge success"
Free cooking sessions are being held in Godalming to bring people together, help them make healthy choices and build confidence in the kitchen.
Plant-based cookery school Joyfull Greens is running the monthly sessions on Wednesday mornings at the Denningberg Centre, Waverley Borough Council said.
Last month, participants cooked a Gambian peanut stew together - described by the authority as a "huge success".
The council said the project offered free cookery classes for residents who may face barriers to accessing healthy food, including low-income households, single parents, carers and anyone wanting to gain confidence in the kitchen.
Samantha Hutchison, the council's assistant director of community services, said the classes offered "a fantastic opportunity for people to come together, share skills, experience different cultural cuisines and improve both their health and community wellbeing".
Frédie Lecerf, founder of Joyfull Greens, said the focus was on making healthy and sustainable eating accessible for everyone - regardless of budget or cooking skills.
Lecerf added: "We are passionate about bringing health, joy and connection to the community through cooking and eating together."
