Firearms officers were called to the scene in the Calders area of Edinburgh

A 23-year-old man arrested in connection with a stabbing in Edinburgh has been charged.

Police, including armed officers, attended the Calder Gardens area at about 08:25 on Monday following reports of a man with a bladed weapon.

A man was treated in hospital for what police believe was a stab wound while a woman was treated for a cut to her head, although officers said that was not sustained from a bladed weapon. They have both since been released.

The arrested man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Police said the incident was not being treated as terror-related and warned that misinformation about what happened was being spread online.

Ch Insp Scott Kennedy said: "I'm aware misinformation continues to be shared online about this incident which could cause further distress in the local community.

"I'd like to be clear: we did not receive any reports of a man attempting to enter a nursery or any educational establishment and this was not a hostage situation.

"While we understand what happened was frightening, I'd ask people to avoid speculating about the details and be mindful that false information could affect any future court proceedings.

"We still have a police presence in the area for reassurance and I thank the public for their continued assistance and support."
