Iran and Oman discuss joint shipping route in Strait of Hormuz and mine clearing mission

Iran and Oman on Tuesday discussed a proposal to establish a jointly managed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz as well as a mission to clear mines from the key oil export corridor.

Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi said he was hopeful a temporary corridor in the strait and "practical arrangements to restore safe navigation" will be announced soon. He described his talks in Tehran with Iran's top diplomat Seyed Abbas Araghchi as constructive.

"The proposed framework includes the establishment of a joint temporary navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and an agreement to implement a joint project to clear the Strait of mines," Oman's Foreign Ministry said in a social media post.
