Indian tractor-trailer driver, using his phone, runs over 23-year-old man in Chicago who was changing tire

Indian truck driver Kuljeet Kang runs over 23-year-old man in Chicago and then flees the spot instead of helping.

Another road accident in the US and another Indian name at the center. On June 24, 23-year-old Sebastian Stone was struck and killed by a passing vehicle when he was changing a flat tire on his black Honda on the right shoulder of I-80 near Torrence Avenue.

Now it has been found out that the tractor-trailer driver was 34-year-old Kuljeet Kang, who was using his phone when the accident took place.

Kang did not stop his vehicle, did not report

Investigation into the crash revealed that Kang did not stop his vehicle after hitting Stone. He did not think of helping the victim or reporting the crash to the police. He just fled the scene and when Illinois State Police troopers arrived, they found Stone dead.A witness provided investigators with detailed information about the tractor-trailer involved, including the trailer number, truck number, and trucking company, prosecutors said.

The accident took place around 5.30 am and by 9 am, state police investigators had confirmed through license plate reader data that the truck described by the witness had been in the area. Kuljeet Kang was identified as the driver.

Kang disconnected call

Within two hours, the company’s owner contacted Kang about being involved in an accident. Kang disconnected the call, according to a prosecution report. Police located Kang that afternoon, seized his phone, and obtained dash camera footage and other records from the trucking company, prosecutors said.

He was then released while the investigation continued.Through their investigation, state troopers determined that Kang was using his phone when he struck Stone on the expressway and confirmed that he did not stop, render aid, or report the crash, according to the allegations.Judge Rivanda Doss Beal granted the state’s detention request, noting that Kang drives for a living and that there was no practical way for the court to limit his use of electronic devices while driving.

Kang has been charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Sebastian just left home and was heading to work

Family members of the victim said Sebastian had just left home and was heading to work in Elk Grove Village. He pulled over as he experienced a tire issue and as he was at it, he was struck by the tractor. "His tire got blown out, so he pulled over and was trying to change his tire when some idiot, not paying attention, just hits my brother and drives away.

Like, who does that?" said his sister, Jordan Stone.Mother Beth Stone said she was able to speak with her son shortly before he died. "I was lucky enough to be able to say, 'I love you' thirty minutes before he died," she said. "And, I'm grateful for that. I just wish I could hold him. I wanted to go hold him so bad and tell him his mommy was here."
