Indian man's appeal to Indian students not to come to the US right now goes viral.
Anushk Sharma who coaches students for studying abroad made a video appealing to Indian students not to come to the US in the present scenario. It was not only a warning, but Sharma said it's his earnest request that Indian students should not invest their money to come to the US and then face uncertainty.
"I am urging you with folded hands, please don't come to the US now. It's dead," Sharma said in his video that went viral as Indians in the US are facing tough times.The Donald Trump administration has been targeting the H-1B visa program for a long time. But now Indian students are also in lurch as students' visa will only have a 4-year validity and after 4 years, those who need an extension will have to apply. Apart from making it tougher for H-1Bs -- with imposing fees, removing the 60-day grace period after layoff -- the administration is also cracking down on CPT and OPT.
Sharma's video was mainly on the recent instructions from the administration to colleges on CPT (Curricular Practical Training) which used to be a temporary work permission for international students. It has nothing to do with immigration authorities, and school authorities can allow a student's job related to the course. In the recent order, the administration said CPT can't be optional; if it's integral to the course, then every student will get this temporary employment, not only international students.
And if this does not happen, then the CPT will not be considered necessary for the course.Sharma said CPT is like an internship, and without it, it's almost impossible to get a job in the US. "It's not worth it anymore. I am feeling sad as I am making this video because I used to recommend students to come and study in the US. But now I can't recommend the US. Especially, if you want to study finance, you can go to France, Paris, Oxford, or Cambridge.
If you are in tech, go to Germany or Switzerland. You won't get as much salary as in the US, but at least they won't drive you out.
If the situation improves in two years, then the US will be the best, but now there is no point in coming. Companies are also uncertain," Sharma said.
