Stranded travellers waited outside the airport
Edinburgh Airport says it is working to resume normal services after the site was evacuated due to reports of a potentially suspicious package.
Police said the measure was a precaution after the discovery was made about 18:50 on Friday.
An explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team attended and a cordon was put place around the airport with roads closed.
The airport reopened in the early hours, but said there would be "knock-on impacts" throughout the day.
Officers said inquiries were ongoing and urged passengers to check ahead and contact their airline for updates.

Edinburgh Airport said it recognised passengers would be frustrated by the incident but that safety was a priority.
It said on Facebook: "Following investigations by specialist teams, the airport has now reopened.
"The incident will have knock-on impacts throughout today (Saturday) and staff are working hard to address these and support passengers.
"Operational teams are continuing to work to restore normal services as quickly as possible."
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SRFS) said they were alerted at 20:44 to assist the operation.
Three appliances and three "specialist resources" were attending the scene late on Friday evening.
