Kenyan police fired tear gas twice at demonstrators marching to Nairobi’s Central Police Station on Monday, protesting the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in custody.
Ojwang, arrested last Friday in Homa Bay and transported 400km to the capital, Nairobi, was accused of “false publication” following a post about Deputy Police Chief Eliud Lagat. He was found dead on Sunday, with police claiming he fatally hit his head against a cell wall.
Activists and family members dispute this, citing visible injuries. Amnesty Kenya has called for full accountability, as the Independent Policing Oversight Authority launches an investigation.
The case has triggered fresh outrage, echoing past incidents of police violence, including last year’s deadly response to anti-tax protests.
