Budapest’s 30th Pride parade saw around 100,000 people defy a government ban to protest Prime Minister Orbán’s crackdown on LGBTQ+ rights.

Around 100,000 people marched in Budapest’s 30th Pride parade on Saturday, defying a government ban and police orders in what organizers called Hungary’s largest LGBTQ+ event.

Despite threats of fines and police surveillance, participants gathered to protest Prime Minister Orbán’s crackdown on LGBTQ+ rights.

The parade, deemed illegal by a March law, was supported by the city’s mayor as a municipal event.

Many saw the march as a stand for democracy and a sign of growing opposition to Orbán’s policies.
